A native of Shaldani, Kit grew up in the town of Sybok, under the loving care of her mother Hekuba, the town witch.  Frightfully naive and perky, Kit had a pleasant childhood, although she had the unusual habit of bringing home strangers for dinner.  Her life was thrown into a tailspin when the Ebene attacks began.  Sybok was one of the first towns hit by a portal, and the entire population was  wiped out.  Kit and her mother alone survived.  Since Sybok was essentially a ghost town after that, many tattered travelers and lost survivors from other attacks began to gravitate there, under the desperate assumption that no town would be hit twice.  Hekuba established a refugee camp in the town's largest building, The Tin Roof, a tavern, and with Kit, began to take in wounded and frightened refugees.  The Tin Roof is now a fixed stop on the underground railroad, started by the Phoenix House, to get people out of Shaldani, and Kit is responsible for relations between the two establishments.  On the more personal side, Kit is a witch in her own right, although her spells are limited to incantations.  She has a personal investment in the outcome of the resistence against the Ebene, to defend not only her homeland, but her mother who is actively sought out by the Ebene.
