The Niflheim (known in the Crystal Realm simply as “the Shadow People”)
are a very mysterious race that many believe to simply be a myth. They are virtually nonexistent in the Crystal Realm.
Stats:
Species Type: Humanoid Primary Language:

Shadow Realm a.k.a. “The Purple Planet” Average Height: Five feet eight inches (Male) Primary Religion:
They worship their leader, Mithos Social Standing: Varies Eating Pattern: They Do Not Eat
Unique Abilities:
The Shadow People
have mastered a part of their minds that most other species never access. Like Hylians, they have the ability to use
telepathy and telekinesis, but they also go through rigorous training to learn to uncloud their mind’s eye. It
is very difficult to hide anything from a Shadow Person. Not only can they sense when someone is lying, but they are
able to see through magical illusions.
A Shadow Person can hide themselves from most other species, unless they’re
dealing with someone with a very strong mind control. The one part of themselves that they can never hide is their shadow.
About one of every five Shadow People is a seer. A seer is different from the average Shadow Person because
they have visions. The visions are painless and easy to control: a seer can choose to “turn off” a vision
at any time. The visions can be about anything, but are usually related to a person in trouble. For this reason,
seers are usually trained to be fine warriors.
The greatest honor a Shadow Person can receive is being a Carver, which
only one in one thousand Shadow People become. A Carver has the ability to create or destroy lives.
History:
Very little is known about the Shadow People, and only those who have intensely studied the occult would know even
the barest facts about them.
The Shadow People are believed to have existed for as long as the Crystal Realm has existed
and indeed, the two are rumored to have once been one planet. Myth suggests that there was a great civil war and that
the Powers That Be separated the two planets. Those on the Shadow Planet evolved into a more powerful group, but they
became dependant on the “World of Light”. As long as the Crystal Realm flourished, the Shadow Planet
could do so as well. Therefore, when there is war or natural disasters in the Crystal Realm, the Shadow Planet takes
damage as well.
For as long as anyone can recall, the leader of the Shadow Planet has been Mithos. He is the
eldest Shadow Person alive, followed only by his son, Prince Tristan. Mithos is also the most powerful Shadow Person,
and can easily manipulate anyone’s mind that he wishes. He is worshipped, however, and any choices he makes are
never questioned.
There is no record of any wars on the Shadow Planet, and the people for the most part, seem to be
remarkably peaceful. The only time they make any contact with the Crystal Realm is when there is a problem that causes
the Shadow Planet to wane.
Appearance:
The Shadow People are basic humanoids, with only a few differences. Their eyes
come in colors that the average humanoid’s do not, including yellow, red, black, purple, and white. In addition,
all the shadow people have the same colored hair: a silvery blonde, almost white. When women are reborn as Shadow
People, they will keep their eye color but their hair will change shades. All reborn women have a small, black tattoo
that looks like a bull’s eye between their shoulder blades.
Reproduction:
Once of the most unique features of the Shadow People
is their method of creation. Couples who desire a child will go to the Carver, and their child will be given their own
unique symbol. When the child’s symbol is engraved into the Carver’s staff, the female will become pregnant.
However, only male children are ever born.
Once during their life, a Shadow Man may travel to the Crystal Realm and
seek out a mate. Once he selects his mate, he can choose no other. The prospective mate has the option of staying
home or coming with the Shadow Man , but she will never be forced to leave if she doesn‘t wish to. If she chooses
to go with the Shadow Man, the memories of those who know her will be altered to forget she ever existed. Once on the
Shadow Planet, she will go through the rebirth ceremony, which lasts several days and is performed by a Carver.
When she is reborn, her hair will change colors and she will have a new tattoo, along with the abilities of a Shadow Person.
Shadow People essentially live forever, although when they choose to end their lives, they will go to a Carver and
have their symbol removed from their staff. They will not die, they will simply cease to exist. It is believed
that their souls become stars. The average Shadow Person chooses to live several thousand years. |
