The Lirin are an enigmatic race from another realm. Although rare in
the Crystal Realm, several isolated incidents of Lirin sitings have been reported within the last ten years. The people
of the Crystal Realm are just beginning to learn about this strange, exotic lifeform.

Unique Abilities:
A Lirin’s
small size is its greatest defense. Enemies will automatically assume these small, fluffy creatures are harmless.
However they are far from it. When a Lirin feels threatened it can instantly morph its shape into a much more powerful
beast. They resemble massive thick-skinned rats with razor-like teeth and very sharp claws. While you would think
this only occurs when a Lirin is in immediate and terrible danger this is not always the case. If a Lirin cannot have
something it wants or receives even a minor injury it can decide to transform itself. It is strongly variant on the
personality of the Lirin itself.
When transformed a Lirin’s bite is highly toxic, their fangs coated with a natural
poison with very few antidotes. When in their normal form it can at the very worst cause a small rash.
Lirin
are slow and unsteady on their feet, but all are born with a pair of small feathery wings. They learn to fly at a very
young age and can go great distances and speeds without tiring. They also have an incredible sense of smell, but usually
only make use of it to identify sources of fiber nearby.
History:
Lirin hail from a dimension named Narok. They are its sole occupants and as far as anyone knows this has always
been the case. It is a place composed primarily of high-fiber plants, which the Lirin dine upon.
They are by
no means a cultural species. Lirin communicate using a complex system of high pitched squeaks, squeals, and purring
noises. However they easily pick up the languages of other races with seemingly little effort at all, though they do
not usually speak it very beautifully and mainly in its most crude form. They have no written language and it is unknown
if anything interesting has ever happened in their history as it has never been passed on. While they are intelligent
creatures they have a strangely one-track mind. A Lirin will stop at nothing to fill its belly with fiber and will only
cease eating once it is full.
Lirin are excellent weavers and when not eating or searching for fiber, they are busy
making better fiber out of the plants in their home. As very social little things they will swiftly pass on any new
secrets or skills they discover in relation to fiber. Anything else they learn is deemed unimportant and overshadowed
by other fiber-pertaining knowledge.
Appearance:
Lirins look similar to a common hamster or gerbil. Their fur is soft and fluffy
and can range from any number of natural colors such as whites, browns, and blacks. Their eyes are usually completely
black. All Lirin have a pair of small feathery wings protruding from their back. While they are normally white
it is not completely uncommon to find other colors among the gene pool. Their limbs are small and rat-like, but flimsy
and not very fit for running.
When in their more aggressive form a Lirin’s wings vanish into its body as it transforms.
Four extra eyes open up on its face, which are often strange and unnatural colors. Its teeth grow into longer, fang-like
tusks that protrude out of its mouth. Large claws also sprout where its nails once were. No matter their physical
state in their usual form, a Lirin is massive and muscular once it transforms. Their skin is hard and thick, usually
taking on a darker tone after the transformation.
Reproduction:
Lirin reproduce much in the same way that common rodents
do, though it is slightly prolonged in comparison. They have a gestation period of seven months and generally give birth to
two to four offspring in a litter.
Young Lirin are born with their fur and will open their eyes within the first
few hours of living. They grow their wings within two weeks and Lirin parents teach them to fly as soon as they have
come in.
Both the mother and the father will care for their children until they are several years old and able
to care for themselves. A Lirin of any gender will reach sexual maturity when it has turned 20 and can reproduce for
the rest of its life, which depending on how well it takes care of itself can be up to 1,000 years.
