The Ebene are the mysterious race attacking Shaldani. Little is known
about them, other than the fact that the race is divided into three castes (soldiers, shapeshifters, and officers) and that
they suffer from an unnatural urge to conquer.
Stats:
Species Type: Humanoid Primary Language:
Delis Lifespan: 80 years (lower classes) 200 years (upper class) Dominant Sense: Touch Land of Origin:
Ebera Average Height: Five feet seven inches Primary Religion: Seveanism Social Standing: Unknown Eating
Pattern: Vegetarian
Unique Abilities:
Soldier - The
lowest of the classes, soldiers are nothing more than large hulking masses of muscle. Soldiers are incredibly obedient
which makes them ideal for Ebera's massive army. They are fairly unintelligent and completely nonverbal, though they
understand words quite easily. It is unknown whether Soldiers are incapable of speech or are simply so discouraged not
to talk that they can not learn how.
Shapeshifter - Shapeshifters are slightly higher than Soldiers, but not by much.
Like soldiers they are completely nonverbal but still understand commands. Shapeshifters, as their names suggest, can
change form very easily. They are slightly more intelligent than soldiers and because of their abnormal abilities make
excellent spies.
Officers - Though the name implies a person of high rank, Officers are not always in such a position.
An Officer is more specifically an Ebene who has the potential to be an Officer. Any Ebene not born a Shapeshifter or
Soldier is very intelligent and strong. While most Officers seek positions of power in the military, some do chose to
devote their lives to the science of portals or to the study of the Ebene religion.
History:

 |
Language - The Ebene people speak two languages, the elegant and smooth Delis
and the very sharp and 'ugly' Sezech. The origins of Sezech are completely unknown to even the Ebene and the majority
of the language has been forgotten. What is still remembered is used for names of people born into higher class families
and things like cities and strongholds.
Delis was created due to the Soldiers and Shapeshifter's inability to learn
the complex Sezech. Which it is very simple and easy to learn, Delis retains an elegancy and smoothness when spoke,
causing it to sound very beautiful to foreign ears. While Delis is not commonly used to name things, lower class families
have begun using it to name their children due to its simplicity.
Religion - Almost all Ebene practice a religion
called Seveanism. The reason Seveanism is so commonly practiced is because of its usefulness and believability.
According to very old texts in the Ebene's possession, a great being made of light known to them as 'Esochte' dragged Ebera
out of the depths of the eternal darkness. However the Ebene did not appreciate the gift they were granted, so Esochte
abandoned them. This is said to be how Ebera fell into such horrible deterioration. Modern day Ebene practice
the religion in a sort of repentance for their past disbelief, and it does not go unrewarded.
To show their devotion,
Seveanists have incredibly elaborate tattoos put onto their body, primarily on their back, legs, and arms. They are
often very painful to receive but as the saying goes, the more painful the better. The designs for the tattoos are derived
from more ancient writings the Ebene discovered. Different designs entail different rewards, and the bigger and more
elaborate the better.
Rewards take form in changes made to the body of the person who has the tattoo, for Esochte does
very much exist and delights in gifting his followers with special powers whenever possible. Very common examples are
heightened senses, more muscle power, higher intelligence, and greater combat ability. However with great study and
experimentation with designs, an Ebene can achieve incredible gift-mutations (for example; Pfalz and her phasing). Some
Ebene devote their lives entirely to the study of such designs.
Military - As the Ebene have a military society,
every single citizen is involved with the military. At a very young age Ebene children begin their military training.
This includes learning how to fight, various strategies and tactics, and general obedience and respect for authority.
This training can be completed at any age, it is simply over when the student has learned everything that the program has
to offer. After this, the former student enters another training program, but this time one more specific to what they
want to end up doing (ie. Scientist, military officer, etc.) Soldiers and Shapeshifters are not educated beyond the
basic program.
Obedience, combat skill, and intelligence and qualities and skills very highly valued by the Ebene.
The more of these one possesses, the more likely they will receive a higher rank or a position of power.
No matter
what profession they have chosen, all Ebene (excluding Soldiers and Shapeshifters) are required to wear a uniform. This
is more for easy recognition of rank than anything else. Each rank's uniform has a specific color. There are also
half-ranks. Half-ranks do not give extra authority, they just signify that that Ebene could possibly move up in rank
in the near future.
The colors are, from lowest to highest; Beige, green, yellow, blue, red, white, black, gray, gold.
Half-ranks
are symbolized by a variety of stripes on the uniform. They are usually the same color as the next rank up.
Portals- The
creation of portals is one thing all Officer Ebene are taught, as they are an essential weapon in their conquest. Portals
are made by distorting reality, which is not as complicated as it sounds. To create a portal, one has to combine different
kinds of energy that are naturally not meant to come together. Once they do, it rips a hole in existence itself which
appears in the form of a portal. Portals can be used to do a variety of things, from creating objects to transporting
people incredibly long distances, even to other dimensions.
However forcing energy together is not such an easy task.
To do it, one must draw power from their own soul. This can be very tiring or not at all, depending on what the person
is trying to do with the portal. To do something simple like making an object or moving someone a short distance, it
takes little power at all. But to do something like traveling to another dimension or stealing someone's soul is literally
impossible for an Ebene to accomplish on their own. For this, they have to use not only their own soul but a soul drawn
from an outside source. Outside souls can be stolen from other people or taken from people who have recently been killed.
Because of the potential power in collecting lots of souls, higher ranking Officers are very careful to watch lower ranks
to make sure they do not gain very many.
Government- The Ebene government is rather unstable and it is hard to say
whether they really have one at all. There is always one major ruler or, 'high lord' that oversees everything from the
training of younger Ebene to the conquest of other dimensions. If the high lord wishes to create or destroy a law, the
decision is run by a very small council made up of high ranking Officers. However this council is more for show than
anything else, as the high lord usually decides who is on it and therefore controls it. A high lord rules until their
death, at which point the highest ranking Officer takes their place. Revolts are very uncommon and most Ebene have no
qualms about the unsteady system.
Appearance:
Soldiers: Soldiers appear as Saiyans or burly Humans.
Shapeshifters: Shapeshifters can take on any appearance
they desire, although they generally cannot hold form for more than a week without changing, to refresh their genes.
A shapeshifter's insides appear like liquid mercury. Some believe that a shapeshifter's true appearance is nothing more
than a puddle of silver goo.
Officers: Officers take on the appearance of generic humanoids, more or less, varying in hair
and eye color to a greater degree than almost any species.
Reproduction:
Ebene reproduce
in a way very similar to Humans. The female’s gestation period is around five to six months. While only
Officer Ebene have the ability to reproduce, they hold an equal chance to have an Officier, Soldier, or Shapeshifter
as their offspring. Ebene often have anywhere from ten to twenty children, as many of them do not survive long in
the harsh conditions of Ebera. Having more children also increases their chances of having an Officer child.
While
Ebene often do have twins and triplets, they are usually born more frail and weak than other children and many of them
are killed off after being born. Both Ebene genders are capable of crossbreeding however it is strictly forbidden and
any Ebene caught doing this is put to death without question. Ebene genes are very dominant and half-ebene Officer
children are often physically much stronger than normal. If a half-breed child ends up having their Ebene side Soldier
or Shapeshifter they will usually not live beyond a few years due to some genetic complications. |
