By far, Hylians are the most prevalent species in the realm. Divided
into five categories (Hylian, Gerudo, Zora, Goron, and Kokiri) they share a rich history and a great voice in the ways of
the realm. Magically inclined, they are the dominating creatures in the world.
Stats:
Species Type: Humanoid Primary Language:
Common Lifespan: 250-500 Years Dominant Sense: Auditory Land of Origin: Hyrule Average Height:
Five feet four inches (female); Five feet five inches (male) Primary Religion: Hylian worship of Din, Nayru, and
Farore Social Standing: Imperial Eating Pattern: Vegetarian
Unique Abilities:
All Hylians: Hylians everywhere are endowed with a set of special powers that require only a year
or two of training to master. They are gifted with the ability of telepathy and telekinesis. In addition, Hylians
can summon energy blasts. A special spell that all Hylians are capable with proper training is Din's Fire, a fire summoning
spell. In addition, Hylians are capable of teleportation through a spell called Farore's Wind.
Another universal
gift that all Hylians possess is a very rare and mysterious skill. In the presence of evil, Hylians grow cold and begin
to shiver. Although they often can't locate the source of the evil, this skill serves as a powerful early warning system,
enhancing the survival skills of the Hylians.
Gerudos and
Gorons: Unlike most Hylian species, Gerudos and Gorons have
an uncanny ability to gain and maintain great muscle mass. They are much better at adapting to warm climates than their
Hylian brethren and can survive for days without water. These two subraces are the finest blacksmiths in the realm.
Zora: Due to their genetic
make-up the Zora are magnificent swimmers and particularly excel at diving. Underwater, they breathe with ease.
They can survive out of water for short periods of time, though it is rare to see them away from their natural habitat.
Kokiri: Every Kokiri
produced by The Great Deku Tree and each is assigned with a faerie guardian from birth, who will stay with their companion
until death. These faeries provide guidance and advice.
History:
The Hylians share a rich heritage, complete with strong religious ties. Considered the oldest race in the realm,
their history extends back to the beginning of time in myth and legend. According to the Hylian religion, the five Hylian
races were created by Din, Nayru, and Farore and blessed with many sacred artifacts, among them the Triforce, a relic composed
of the three virtues of Hylian society: Courage, Wisdom, and Power.
Nearly a thousand years ago, an ambitious
Gerudo prince named Ganondorf Dragmire tried to steal this artifact. During a great battle, known as the Imprisoning
War, seven sages rose from the Hylian population to suppress this attemtp. In order to keep the Triforce out of the
wrong hands, the Triforce was divided into three pieces, each one bestowed on a different lineage in Hyrule.
For centuries,
the Hylian races were divided. It was Dragmire's vie for power that caused them to unite, though on shakey ground.
Although on equal terms, only Hylian Hylians were allowed to inherit the throne. The monarchy is the Harkin lineage,
known for red headed women. A subsect of the Hylians, known as the Sheikah, rose to become the guardians of this family.
At an unknown point in history, a decree was made that in every generation there should be a Hylian princess named Zelda.
Religion
is important to all Hylians, regardless of race. Missionary work is considered highly respected and in addition, there
are countless religious titles bestowed to citizens who stand out as extraordinary. Some titles include Triforce Guardian,
Hero of Time, Hero of Destiny, and Hero of Lore (there is only one Hero in each generation). Missionaries can easily
be identified by the fact that they always braid their hair and wear Triforce pendants.
For many centuries, the Hylians
imperialized the realm, setting up colonies in Holodrum, Labrynna, Beigor, and Galaxia. These colonies have all since
gained their independence. During the time of colonization, Hylians began to keep Humans as slaves. A bitter rivalry
began to develop between the Hylians and Humans, culminating in a thousand year war that concluded with the marriage of the
crown princess of Hyrule with the crown prince of Catalan, the leading Human kingdom in the realm.
Appearance:
All Hylians: Universally,
Hylians are most noted for their delicately pointed ears. In addition, all Hylians are born with blue eyes. Any
Hylian with another eye color is considered highly irregular, except for the Sheikah who have red eyes. A Hylian born
with blond hair and blue eyes is called a "Genesis Terran" because it is believed that the original Hylians were all like
that.
Gerudos: As desert dwellers, Gerudos are noted for tan skin. They tend to have slender, pointed noses
and well toned muscles. Almost all Gerudos are born with red hair, although certain Gerudo clans can be noted for variations.
Gerudos are 99% female and tend to dress in comfortable silks and muslins of bright colors and lively patterns.
Zoras: Most Zoras stand
proud and tall at around six or even seven feet and they are lithe and graceful. Their torso, arms, and legs are like
that of a fit Hylian but their hands and feet are more similar to flippers. They have large fins attached to their elbows
and hips. Generally, their skin is a blue/silver color, wet and glossy like the scales of a fish. Their heads
are slightly humanoid, with large blue eyes and pointed noses.
Gorons: Often, Gorons are equated with living boulders.
They have a light orange skin tone, similar to the rocks of the Hylian mountain ranges. Females and males are often
indistinguishable, although some older males have beards. All Gorons have white hair, usually uncut. The muscle
tone on Gorons is immense to the point where they could almost be classified as demonoids.
Kokiri: All the Kokiri stand only a
few feet tall and have delicate features with all different colours of hair. Their attire is always green, which helps
them blend into the forest, with the males usually wearing small, pointed floppy hats. Though they never look older
than a ten year old child, they possess the intelligence and experience of adult Hylians. They are also very agile and
dexterious and good at crafting small weapons such as bows and slings.
Reproduction:
All Hylians: Hylians reproduce as all humanoids do, with a gestation period of about eight months. Twins are
fairly common among Hylians. As all other humanoid species, it is the female who gives birth and nurses the infants.
Females can become sexually active at the age of thirteen, males at fifteen. Fertility lasts well into the sixties.
Hylians
often crossbreed with other species. Although Hylian magical abilities are always passed on, Hylian physical traits
are recessive. The gestation period of a Hylian crossbreed is the gestation period for the other species. Hylians
of mixed racial heritage are often referred to as Bui Doi, an ancient Hylian term for "dust of life." This slang term is not considered
appropriate for mixed company.
Gerudos: The birthrate of Gerudos is ninety nine percent female. A male Gerudo is born once every hundred
years or so.
Kokiri: The Kokiri don't reproduce. They are generated by a semi-divine creature known as the Great Deku
Tree.
